DRankin has about the simplest stand available. Not sure if he's got a picture but it's a two wheel hand truck. Roll it up to the phd while it's on the tractor, set the auger on the base of the hand truck, use some heavy straps to strap it to the cart, disconnect it from the tractor and roll it to your storage area. ....

I'm going to try the Hand truck. I've used mine to lay the unit across to wheel it back in a corner. Still clumsy.
At one time if I wanted to make a disconnect I would simply lean a couple of sticks propped under the auger universal (like a tripod) Then take it off the hitch and PTO. ....

Here's a design that is probably larger than your need but maybe you can scale it down. ....

These are all good suggestions...I guess I'm thinking of something cheap, like a big sawhorse that I can back up to, rest the gearbox on, un-hook, and be done?? ....

The cheapest solution someone had was that they had a gravel floor in their pole barn that they just pulled the tractor in and drilled a hole and just dropped it in there.
Probably a pain to attach afterwards. ....

We have two ways of parking a PTO PHD.
The first, and simplest, is an old chain over a beam in the equipment shed, back up, raise the PHD, hook the chain into a loop under the arch of the the frame, lower the PHD till the chain takes the weight and unhitch.
The second is just a tripod made out of 2"x4" with a plywood base which has casters under it. Two of the three boards are longer and form a notch, the hook of the PHD frame rests in that notch and a loop of chain secures it there, and the 3pth portion rests on a cross bar bolted to the third board.
Best of luck. ....

Big Saw Horse......Might be an Idea... Turn one on end and brace it up a bit.... Shazam! Think I'll look into that. Just happen to have a couple sawhorses ready to be retired..... HMMMMM! I'll let you know. ....

Banger, let me know how that works...I like Murf's idea...I just poured 40 yards of concrete in the bottom of the barn, and there is a beam that needs to be replaced...so now I'm thinking of incorporating something in that beam to "hang" it rather than support it from the floor. ....

Yep! I like that hanging idea as well. PHD's are great tools.... But sure are a pain to store. Let you know iffin I can stir the ole gray matter.

I use Murf's suggested method but with a nylon strap. End of the strap is positioned in the bend of the PHD boom and seems to be perfectly counterbalanced there. It's easy to lift or drop the 3-ph pins and sided to side movement is great as well. ....

Yeah, I like the hanging Idea too. I studied out my saw Horses and it was more trouble than I wanted to mess with. Plus another contraption laying around....
I happen to have plenty of nylon tow straps that would gladly work for that purpose. Thanks!
I do have an area that I can hang it and will do that.
I'm a firm believer in keeping it simple. BTW.;) ....

No reason a strap wouldn't work, but we have lots of slightly stretched chains, and IMHO a chain is faster and easier to hook together at varying heights is all.
Potahto, Potayto........
Best of luck. ....

Ok Mark,
I sent the latest code revisions on the Photo upload modifications to the guy in QA and man he must have knocked coffee on my code or else he needed espresso, but the long and short of it is I made a coding error that he missed which made it so that not just the filenames with a space in them but all files were rejected for upload.
So now that the QA guy (which is also me) has been reprimanded , I think it works, so you can try to upload the image now. Thanks for your patience!

Ok Dennis, quit whacking your knuckles with that ruler...... It works now. Thanks.
Pic #2 shows the conceptual model. I found that a hand truck with a rounded frame worked better than the flat frame design.
The slabs of wood on the bottom do two things:
1) they jack up the auger so the other stuff does not drag on the ground, and
2) extend the the lip of the hand truck to contain the support parts.
Halfway up the hand truck frame you can see a strap that keeps the auger attached to the hand truck frame. This is the key to the concept. The strap must be strong and tight.
In other places you can see bungee cords that keep the other parts from flopping around.
Let me know if there are any questions. ....

Simple enough for me and I just happen to have a hand truck with the rounded back frame. And I just took a Strap out of something yesterday.
Thanks for putting up the pic!!! ....

Looks good Lee. I have a bit of a pickle here. Last summer I sold my welder so making one might be a bit tedious.
Trouble is... I knew this would happen when I let the guy talk me out of it.

I know what you mean I also done that one time and never again. It cost to much to replace. Well let us know what you end up with. They are so hard to hookup and the way I do it is easy for me.

OK! My hand truck wheels are too narrow set and when I let the PHD off the TPH Everything fell over! Owweee!
The saw horse wasn't big enough. And I have an implement where I was going to hang the darned thing.
Being back to square one... I sure would like to see a pix of that 2x4 on plywood setup Murf/ Brokenarrow??
Sometimes a feller just needs to walk away from it all and think some. Nice lil winter project. eh? ....
